Ways to Give
Planned Giving
Planned giving can be a thoughtful way to extend your support for GCTYO into the future, even if you are only beginning to explore the idea. Some supporters choose to include a gift to GCTYO in their will or living trust or to name GCTYO as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, but these arrangements are always entirely personal and optional.
If you would like to learn more or simply have a confidential conversation about possibilities to support GCTYO over the long term, please contact Development Manager Emily Bloom Shufrin at development@gctyo.org. This information is general in nature and not intended as legal or tax advice, so anyone considering a legacy gift should consult their own attorney or tax advisor.
Bequests
To establish the creation of an unrestricted gift through an estate plan, language might read:
“I give and bequeath, absolutely and forever, the sum of $__________ (or ______% of my residual estate) to Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, Fairfield, Connecticut.
To establish the creation of a scholarship through an estate plan, language might read:
I direct that this gift shall establish the __________________ Scholarship (insert preferred name), to provide assistance to deserving students participating in GCTYO (insert any additional restriction, if desired). I further request that, should this fund meet the financial requirement, GCTYO consider permanently endowing this scholarship.”
Donors should review and customize any sample clause with their own legal or tax advisors to ensure that it aligns with their intentions and circumstances.
Beneficiary Designations
Some people prefer not to make gifts through their wills or estate plans and instead use beneficiary designations, which can offer added flexibility over time. Common options include IRAs and other retirement plans, life insurance policies, and commercial annuities, any of which can name Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras as a beneficiary.
Making this type of gift is usually straightforward. First, request a change of beneficiary form from your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank, or other financial institution. Next, decide what percentage, from 1 to 100, you would like GCTYO to receive and list “Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, Fairfield, Connecticut” along with that percentage on the form. Finally, return the completed form as instructed by your provider so your beneficiary designation can be recorded.
Charitable Annuities
A charitable gift annuity with GCTYO is a way to blend generosity with financial security, turning a single meaningful gift into dependable lifetime payments for you and, if you wish, a loved one. In exchange for your contribution, GCTYO provides a fixed annual amount that never changes, allowing you to support young musicians while also creating a predictable income stream.
If you are not yet 65, you may be able to arrange a deferred gift annuity that begins payments at a later date you choose, often aligning with retirement plans. This kind of future focused arrangement can help you build a more stable tomorrow while expressing a lasting commitment to access, excellence, and opportunity in GCTYO’s programs.
Other Ways to Give

Vision & Opportunity Fund
The Vision & Opportunity Fund supports our general operation efforts, which is the foundation that sustains every aspect of GCTYO’s work. Gifts to this fund provide flexible resources that allow GCTYO to plan confidently, respond thoughtfully to student needs, and maintain the high artistic and educational standards families expect.

Access & Enrichment Funds
The Access & Enrichment Funds are where opportunity and dedication meet at GCTYO, turning financial obstacles into stepping stones for young musicians. These funds transform what might have been out-of-reach experiences, like intensive instruction or unforgettable performances in new places, into real possibilities for students who are ready to work hard and grow.

Giving from Investments
Giving from investments lets you experience the impact of your generosity alongside GCTYO’s young musicians. By directing appreciated assets such as stock, mutual funds, or IRA distributions to GCTYO, you may be able to contribute more than you could from day-to-day income, often with meaningful tax advantages.
