Giving from Investments

Giving from investments lets you experience the impact of your generosity alongside GCTYO’s young musicians. By directing appreciated assets such as stock, mutual funds, or IRA distributions to GCTYO, you may be able to contribute more than you could from day-to-day income, often with meaningful tax advantages.

Donor Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund lets you support GCTYO on a schedule that works for you while potentially increasing the tax advantages of your giving. By contributing several years of charitable donations into your donor-advised fund in a single tax year, you may be able to itemize and realize a larger deduction now, yet still recommend grants to GCTYO over time as needs and opportunities arise. To direct a gift, simply recommend a grant to Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, EIN 06-1325895, and list any special purpose such as general support or a specific program in the grant description so your generosity can be put to work exactly as you intend.

Donating Stock & Mutual Fund

Gifts of appreciated stock or mutual funds can be a powerful way to champion GCTYO’s young musicians. By donating investments that have grown in value over more than a year, many donors are able to claim a deduction based on the current market value while often sidestepping capital gains tax they would owe if they sold the assets first and then gave cash instead. This kind of giving can stretch a contribution further for GCTYO, turning long-term investment growth into lessons, rehearsals, and performances, while preserving more of the donor’s overall tax advantage. To move shares to GCTYO, donors typically work with a broker or advisor to initiate a direct transfer to GCTYO’s brokerage account and then share the details of the gift so it can be accurately attributed and gratefully acknowledged.

IRA Donation

Individuals aged 70½ or older can use qualified IRA assets to support GCTYO while potentially lowering the amount of income subject to tax. When a distribution is sent directly from your IRA to Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras as a qualified charitable distribution, it can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution and, within current IRS limits, may be excluded from your taxable income. Instead of paying tax on funds you are required to withdraw, you can direct them to help young musicians learn, rehearse, and perform, turning a mandatory distribution into meaningful support for music education.

Access & Enrichment Funds

The Access & Enrichment Funds are where opportunity and dedication meet at GCTYO, turning financial obstacles into stepping stones for young musicians. These funds transform what might have been out-of-reach experiences, like intensive instruction or unforgettable performances in new places, into real possibilities for students who are ready to work hard and grow.

Planned Giving

Planned giving can be a thoughtful way to extend your support for GCTYO into the future, even if you are only beginning to explore the idea. Some supporters choose to include a gift to GCTYO in their will or living trust or to name GCTYO as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, but these arrangements are always entirely personal and optional.
